About

Originally built in 1886 from surplus Civil War barracks material, The Tarpon Inn is one of the most historic hotels on the Texas coast and a National Register landmark celebrating 140 years. Each of the unique rooms is decorated in period antiques — no two are alike, and there are no televisions or telephones by design. The 200-foot-long porches with rocking chairs and old-fashioned ceiling fans invite you to slow down to island time. The main lobby is adorned with over 7,000 tarpon scales, each signed by the angler who landed the fish — including one signed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1937. Home to Roosevelt's restaurant and the 1886 Bar.
